A surveyor or (land surveyor) can be defined as a professional who determines positions on or near the Earth’s surface.

Surveying can be defined as a profession, technique, art and science of defining the terrestrial or three-dimensional positions of points as well as the distances and angles between them. A professional who deals on land surveying is known as a land surveyor. These curtain walls bear on the framework below or suspended from the framework above, rather than resting on load-bearing walls of conventional construction. Some early skyscrapers possesses a steel frame which makes the construction of load-bearing walls taller than of those which are made of reinforced concrete.

Steps in Building a Skyscraper

The steps involved in the construction of a skyscraper is highlighted below.

  1. Locate a clear piece of land with stable ground and a good location.
  2. Dig a hole to bedrock level to support the building; this can be up to 200-plus feet deep.
  3. The footings (which are like big pads that spread out the weight) should be placed at the bottom of the hole. The footings should be placed on stable ground, which is often the bedrock.
  4. Concrete should be poured over the footings.
  5. The vertical support beams should be constructed and well placed using large cranes. These are used to support the vertical load.
  6. The horizontal steel girders should be placed between the vertical beams which are used to bind the building together.
  7. The outside walls, which act like curtains, should be placed and the building is finished off.
